Is it possible to improve my speaking skills?

Is it possible to improve my speaking skills?

It probably takes a lot of courage to even ask the question: 'Is it possible to improve my speaking skills?' Once you get talking, you'll find your confidence soars, making conversation easier and more interesting!

Speaking is a highly interactive skill. Speaking at a competent level isn't just about pronouncing words 'correctly'; if you've studied any language, you've probably noticed different communities have a different pronunciation for the same word.

When speaking ad lib (spontaneously), a native-English speaker naturally uses a lot of inference, idioms and slang from different English-speaking cultures. Intonation, rhythm and stress patterns are woven throughout their speech, which indicates a comprehensive grasp of the language.

These are all learned skills that have been practised, and we offer these skills to be exercised in our Public Speaking class on the weekends! For the 90-minute lesson, students aged 9 to 12 are given improvisation tasks to challenge their critical thinking skills. Recently our Saturday afternoon class was divided into two groups to debate on the age-old topic of zoos: 'Should wild animals be kept in zoos or be left alone to live in the wild?' It was a delight to hear the children express their thoughts and opinions about such serious topics. We are always grateful that we can offer the safe space for them to do so in such a place of learning as our Dynamic Language Centre's Bayan Lepas branch.

Keep up to date with our social media, particularly TikTok where we may post videos of the variety of classes we run: from our children's English language Holiday Programme to our friendly beginners' Mandarin class in Penang! As we've mentioned: Speaking is an interactive skill that is learned! So, interact with our team when you contact us to arrange a seat for your child in our next class coming soon!
