Malay

Dynamic Language Centre offers three modes of study of the Malay language.  Our programs are the first of their kind to be tailored specifically to the needs of expatriates and their learning styles.

We offer intensive, progressive and customised programmes, and a short course in public speaking.

All students who have studied Malay before will be asked to take a placement test, of approximately one hour, to enable us the place them at the correct level of their course.

Intensive Malay (daytime classes)

Our intensive programme has proved popular amongst the expatriate community over the eight years we have been in operation.  We have taught students from the Netherlands, the UK, the USA, India, Canada, Korea, Nepal and the Philippines to reach a level of language that has enabled them to participate fully in Malaysian life.  The intensive programme consists of six levels (from beginner to advanced).  Each level has two modules, each of seven weeks’ duration, with a one week break between modules.  There are 15 hours of contact time each week, but students are also required to complete homework daily.  Most students have found they are functioning sufficiently well in the language after one year of full time study (3 levels/6 modules), and have not found it necessary to continue to the higher levels of study.

Obviously, the longer students have available for study the more progress they will make and the more fluent they will become.  If, as a potential student, you wish to see exactly what you would learn on our intensive programme, the module descriptors are available from our administrative office on request.

The ideal class size for the intensive Malay programme is between six and 12 students, though we are able to run with fewer students.  With six or more students the cost is RM2,100 per module.

A certificate will be presented to students on completion of each level, providing their class attendance is a minimum of 75%, and that they obtain a minimum of 60% on the examination.

Progressive Malay (evening classes)

We offer a progressive Malay evening class on Thursday evenings from 7.30 until 9.30 pm.  New students can join for an introductory 24-hour course over 3 months, at a cost of RM360, payable in two installments.

As for all our progressive courses except English, the Malay course consists of six levels (from beginner to advanced), with nine modules per level.  Each module takes 4 weeks (i.e. it takes 9 months to complete a level).  The introductory course covers the first three modules.

A certificate will be presented to students on completion of the first 3 months, and then with the completion of each level, providing their class attendance is a minimum of 75%, and that they obtain a minimum of 60% on the examination.

Our classes run with a minimum of six students and a maximum of 15.

Customised Malay (anytime)

Many of our students have requested a course of Malay be customized specifically for their learning needs.  We have experience of teaching expatriate families as a unit and have also delivered courses to individuals and small groups according to specific needs.  Please contact us to enquire further.

We are also able to deliver training courses tailored to the needs of businesses.  Our reputation amongst corporate clients is steadily growing and the repeat business we are offered is a sure sign of customer satisfaction.

Public Speaking Course

Our Malay teachers have developed a Public Speaking Course that shall be delivered for the first time from 30 May 2005.  The course has been developed in response to the requirements of some of our former students, who have notified us of their need in this area.  The course is suitable for all who make speeches and /or give presentations in the Malay language and will also focus on sharpening grammar and cultural awareness.  It will enable its participants to perform public speaking tasks with confidence, in the correct and appropriate way.  For more information on the course content, please contact our administrative office.

The course shall be delivered over a twenty week period, with students having 1.5 hours of contact time each week, plus homework.  (i.e. 30 hours of contact time).  It shall run with a maximum of 8 students to ensure each student receives adequate input from our two teachers, at a cost of RM1,000 per student.  If you are interested in taking this course, please register your interest with our Administrative Office.
